I have just had the offer of 1/2 - 3/4 acre of land from a generous friend and would like to raise some lambs on it. My first question is how many is realistic for this relatively small patch of land and also can anyone advise a decent book on the subject to get me started.
Hi Sam,
it depends initially on the age/size of the lambs but I would think 6 or 8 would be fine.Take into account how much grass and the quality of it is important and its always better to have a bit too much for the number than have it all grazed off like a cricket pitch by having too many.Try the DEFRA site for info on keeping sheep.
good luck! I am in my 14th year keeping sheep on 12 acres.16 lovely texel lambs this year. All thriving.
cheers,
Brian
